Matt Holliday Oakland A's Matthew Holliday and his wife, Leslee, have two sons, Jackson (12/4/03) and Ethan (2/23/07). Young Jackson can often be found in the clubhouse taking batting practice against his dad. Matt is the son of current North Carolina State associate head coach and former Oklahoma State head coach Tom Holliday, and is also nephew of Dave Holliday, who is a Special Assistant to Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd. Matt's brother, Josh, is the hitting coach at Georgia Tech. He was recruited out of Stillwater High School to play quarterback at OSU, but signed with Colorado (Pat Daugherty). As a senior, he earned All-American honors in football and baseball and also earned his region's Gatorade Player of the Year award in both sports, and competed for the 1997 USA Junior National Team. One of the National League's top hitters for the duration of the 2007 season, Holliday batted .340 with 36 home runs and 137 RBI in 158 games for Colorado. he was selected to the All-Star team via player voting for a 2nd consecutive year, and also participated in the Home Run Derby as part of All-Star festivities. He led the National League in average (.340), hits (216), RBI (137), extra-base hits (92), total bases (386), and doubles (50), ranking among league leaders in home runs (4th, 36), slugging (3rd, .607), and runs (3rd, 120).
